FAQs

  • We want to find the right fit for our team, so we are flexible with starting dates for the right person. Ideally we would like to have our new apprentice start before the end of the year.

  • We currently have two workshops - the first in Kyabram (regional Vic), with the second in Williamstown North, Melbourne.

All signage is manufactured in our Kyabram workshop, with installation taking place from both locations.

Your apprenticeship will be based from our Kyabram workshop, with opportunity to travel to Melbourne for installations when required.

After you have completed your apprenticeship there may be opportunity to transfer to our Melbourne location full time.

  • As part of a signwriting apprenticeship with Empire Signs you will complete a Certificate III in Signs and Graphics.

Our apprentices attend trade school at VU Polytechnic in Sunshine, for one week every 5 weeks (8 times a year).

For info on fees, please visit the VU website. Government subsidised places are available, as well as student scholarships.

  • Signwriting apprenticeships usually take four years to finish, but early sign-off may be available after three years for apprentices who have demonstrated competence in all areas.

  • Every day is different. One day you will be applying prints to panels, the next day you could be travelling to site to install shopfront signage.

The beauty of this trade is that no day is the same. You will learn how to make lots of different kinds of signage from scratch and how to install them.

  • A workday for our boys in the workshop is typically 7am - 3pm.

With installations taking place on the regular, there may be days you’re required to start earlier to be on-site by a certain time, or stay back late to finish a job.

Overtime is also regularly available for anyone looking to make a bit of extra cash.

  • We might be biased but we’d like to think Empire is a pretty fun place to work. Not only do you get to be a little creative and make some pretty cool stuff, it’s a very hands on trade which is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to sit behind a desk all day.

Our workplace is made up of around 14 staff, with most of our team under 35. We try not to take ourselves too seriously. We work hard as a team but we also have a good time while doing it!
